SAN FRANCISCO (Business Emerge): OpenAI has confirmed the appointment of Albert Lee, previously a senior director of corporate development at Google, as its new vice president of corporate development. Lee officially begins his role on Tuesday and will report directly to OpenAI’s finance chief, Sarah Friar.
Lee’s appointment aims to place an experienced executive with extensive company-wide visibility in a position empowered to accelerate strategic initiatives. The move follows OpenAI’s recent expansion of its executive team in corporate and business development functions.
During his tenure at Google, Lee managed corporate development for Google Cloud, DeepMind, and the strategy and scouting division. Since joining Google in 2011, he has been involved in more than 60 acquisitions and strategic investments valued at over $50 billion. He also serves on the advisory board of CapitalG, Alphabet’s independent growth fund, which has invested in companies including CrowdStrike.
Lee’s hiring comes after OpenAI recently brought on Torben Severson, a former Amazon executive, as vice president and head of global business development. In addition, Mike Liberatore, previously the finance chief at xAI, joined OpenAI in September as its business finance officer.
The appointments signal OpenAI’s focus on strengthening its corporate development and financial management capabilities as the company expands its partnerships and investment activities.
With Lee’s extensive experience in large-scale acquisitions and strategic growth, OpenAI is positioned to advance its business operations and explore additional transactions and collaborations in the technology sector.
