Fisker, an electric car maker, is recalling more than 12,000 Ocean SUVs due to an issue with exterior door handles that may stick and fail to open. This is the third recall the business has issued this month.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened four investigations into different faults with the Ocean SUV, which was designed to compete with Tesla’s best-selling Model Y crossover.
“A door that fails to open can prevent occupants from exiting in an emergency, increasing the risk of injury,” according to the agency. To address this problem, Fisker will repair the defective door handles at no cost to the owners.
Fisker has notified its dealers in the United States, Canada, and Europe to cease sales of Ocean cars in their inventory and examine them for the problem.
The business revealed that the recall concerns 12,523 cars, including 8,204 Ocean SUVs in the United States, 513 in Canada, and 3,806 in Europe.
Customer complaints on social media have highlighted concerns such as the key fob sometimes failing to unlock the vehicle and the doors not opening.
Earlier this month, Fisker recalled over 18,000 cars in North America and Europe owing to software flaws and noncompliance with safety regulations.
Fisker, a once-promising EV firm, filed for bankruptcy earlier this month after running out of finances while trying to ramp up production and deliver its Ocean SUVs.
