Paris (Business Emerge), October 7: Stellantis has announced that it will commence production of the next iteration of its popular mid-sized Jeep Compass SUV at the Melfi facility in southern Italy in 2025. The new model, built on Stellantis’ versatile Medium platform, will support multiple propulsion systems, including fully electric, hybrid, and traditional internal combustion engines, enabling greater flexibility and affordability for consumers.
This new production initiative is anticipated to partially address Stellantis’ recent production slump in Italy, driven by weak market demand and ongoing factory upgrades for new models. Vehicle output at Stellantis’ Italian facilities has declined by over 30% during the first nine months of the year, with the Melfi plant experiencing a significant 62% drop, as per data from the FIM-CISL union. The full-year production forecast for 2024 in Italy now stands at fewer than 500,000 vehicles, a notable decline from the 751,000 produced in the previous year.
In addition to the Jeep Compass, the Melfi plant will also start producing a new premium model under Stellantis’ DS brand in early 2025. Further mid-sized vehicles are expected to follow at the facility in subsequent years. Stellantis has also revealed that the new Jeep Compass will begin production for North America and other global markets in 2026.
